SUPERVISORY LEADERSHIP by PSSUPT Raul Medina

July 21, 2009 PSSUPT RAUL MEDINA

“YOU CANNOT TEACH WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW NOR LEAD WHERE YOU DO NOT GO…..”

The JLC students prepared to meet up with PSSUPT RAUL MEDINA. He discussed the Nature and Importance of Leadership in time with the just concluded election of officers last 13th of July.

He shared some good thoughts to ponder:
" I may not be a knight in a shining armor but surely will be a light in the darkness of the night;
My enemies and adversaries may even win over me but never will be victorious;
I may not be frustrated but never in despair;
I may not be first but surely will always be a finisher;
I may lost a fight but will never be defeated;
I may not be the Boss, or will never be, but surely will always be a LEADER."

July 14, 2009

Rain or shine, these enthusiastics students of JLC wouldn't stop swimming! wow, Ive heard that this event is done once a week. I could imagine how great they are now! Too bad that I missed the opportunity to meet their members who won as Boy Lunod and Boy Pulikat on their last session on July 4, 2009. A day before PCInsp Torre went to Samar. Hmm, that would be a little exciting to see here, right?

Dont worry, I will post that momentous photos when it gets available, soon!

For the meantime, let's see how the students develop their swimming skills today. PO3 Angeles and PO2 Duran take charge of the group. Pretty well they remain cooperative.... Two thumbs-up for you guys!

TECHNICAL WRITING 1 by NUP Normita Mercado

June 24-26, 2009 NUP Normita Mercado

I believe that a man who speaks well must know how to write what he thinks and feels and vice versa.

NUP Normita Mercado is the right woman for the job, I can say. She's been teaching this subject for many generations of trainees, will be it Public Safety Basic Recruit Course or for Junior Leadership Course.

Well, technical writing somehow, is said to be the lacking skill for some policemen. Eventually some are tagged to be slow and some are just somewhat NOT interested to develop themselves.

Good to note that this first set of students of JLC are really doing well when it comes to writing correspondences and in putting into black and white their great ideas! Very impressive! It really shows on the results of their exam.

JLC STUDES GEAR UP. READY, AIM, FIRE!

June 23, 2009- It's been a hectic day for the vigorous students of JLC who went out into the rays of the sun and sweat out in a rigid marksmanship training led by their equipped trainor, no less than the Chief of Training himself, PCInsp Nicolas D. Torre III. They were once more given a chance to develop their art and skill in using firearm especialy pistol (9mm).

The training section make it a point that the students will get enough skills they need and require in order not only to pass the whole training, but to be a skillful policemen in performing their duties and responsiblities.

It's been a serious undertaking not only by QCPD but the whole PNP organization, as a reaction in the wake of a report from the Agence France Presse (AFP) quoting National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Commissioner Luis Mario General as saying that 90 percent of the country’s 125,000-member police force cannot shoot their guns straight or even clean their firearms properly.

ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

June 19 The JLC students meet up with the DENR Representative, Mr. QUiaoit who abreast them with some good adaptation practices and strategies on climate change. This is very helpful because climate change is the primary global problem that we are facing now. The speaker discussed about the local strategies that can be adopted to prepare for future changes in climates that affects water, agriculture,health, ecosystems, coasts and flood.

Climate change is everyone's concern. Let's conserve energy, protect our natural resources, clean our land, water and air, avoid pollutants. Let's act now before it's too late.

PCINSP DONATO teaches Gender Awareness

June 18, 2009- PCInsp Cherry Lou Donato teaches today Gender Awareness and Development to a group of police students undertaking JLC- Junior Leadership Course which is composed of 55 students dominated by male having only 2 female in the group. It is indeed very timely to refresh the minds of the police officers about the importance of having basic understanding of gender and how it affects development, generate appreciation of GAD concepts and principles as tools for development planning, and acquiring knowledge on undertaking GAD mainstreaming, planning and budgeting for local government units.

It is just a one-day class but the knowledge they acquire and the awareness that PCI DOnato imparts to the students will greatly help in the mobilization of the different programs for the welfare of women and ponder, "It is NOT telling women to be like men or edge out men;
It IS telling women and men to expand their social space, so they can freely take on roles according to their individual capacities, not on the basis of SEX.
